What You Need To Know About Smoking Our Herbs

What quality of herbs does Goddess Breath use?

Our herbs are always food-grade. We strive to use the highest quality, organic herbs whenever possible… so about 90% of our ingredients are USDA organic. We also source locally from trusted sources (like our friends, family and neighbors).   Though not USDA Organic approved, we know that the grower used sustainable and organic growing practices. That being said, there are a few key herbs that are primarily grown in Asia which we cannot always find organic, in which case we choose the highest grade available. Although small, we choose quality over quantity every time.

Is smoking okay for your lungs?

The most transparent answer is no, probably not. The most harmless way to ingest our herbal blends, or any, is by drinking them.

That being said, there is certainly a gap in the research. Western Science has conducted extensive studies on tobacco use, but little to none on herb smoking, especially in terms of what it does to lungs long term.

What we innerstand about smoking herbs other than tobacco, we pull from ancient traditions of smoking herbs that have been used for healing by humankind for millenia.

We research what each healing herb is used for holistically and we tune into our own garden-witch intuitions and guidance to know what is most suitable for our blends and what is not.

For example, many dried leaves, flower petals, and barks can be smoked but we would recommend avoiding smoking stems, seeds or resins.

Here’s what we do know about smoking herbal blends from current science:

Burning any vegetable matter creates carcinogens, even charred, grilled or blackened food. This is the same for standing around a campfire or even incense.

According to Everyday Health, “In fact, herbal cigarettes are as harmful as tobacco cigarettes, because any vegetable matter that's burned produces tar, carbon monoxide, and other toxins. When you breathe in the smoke of an herbal cigarette, you're breathing those harmful toxins directly into your lungs. Herbal cigarettes are required by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to carry warning labels saying that they're harmful to your health.”

As the director of the Federal Trade Commission's Bureau of Consumer Affairs once stated, "There's no such thing as a safe smoke.”
“Simply being free of additives -- or in the case of herbal cigarettes, free of nicotine -- doesn't make them safer," says Matthew Gold, a staff attorney for the FTC. "Any kind of cigarette you smoke has tar and carbon monoxide, which have very real health hazards associated with them." Gold won a case against Alternative Cigarettes, Inc. that forced the company to display health warnings on its products - found on HealthDay

To be clear, Goddess Breath Blends are all herbal, unlike Bidi’s or Clove Cigarettes which also contain tobacco. We do not recommend smoking Goddess Breath Blends daily. We intend them to be sacred smokables adding a holiness to your special moments.

How long would it take to wean off of cigarettes when switching to herbal blends?

Gratefully, it only takes the body three days to rid itself of nicotine which is the addictive chemical in tobacco, so after those first three days, the challenge is creating new habits. How long it will take to release tobacco will be up to the user. Here’s some ways that using GBBs can help you wean yourself off of tobacco and create healthier habits.

Quitting cold turkey - everytime you would have smoked, make yourself a cup of Calming, Grounding, Quit Smoking, Chakra Clearing, Lung Clearing, Sugar ‘n’ Spice, or Aphrodisiac to help soothe your nerves and reframe your brain.

Weaning - roll your own combination of GBB and tobacco and slowly increase the ratio of GBB to tobacco until the tobacco is no longer included in your rollies.

How do the herbs affect your mood?  What is actually happening?

Herbs are amazing healers and friends. They are also preserved vibrations to be unleashed with activation by water or fire. In combination, herbs will weave their magical properties together creating an intention. With your receptivity, your body will receive the healing intention of the herbal blend, therefore transforming your mood and thought patterns.
Similarly to CBD and THC found in cannabis, each herb carries its own terpenes for pain, happiness, etc. If you are sensitive, you will be able to feel what’s going to happen when you smoke or drink the blend, simply by inhaling. If you’re not sure you can sense what’s happening in your body, look for it in how the atmosphere, the conversation, and the vibes change with whom you share it.

    Words of Caution:

Activated with water, all blends are safe for daily consumption, save for Lucid Dreaming which contains Mugwort and is not recommended for long term consumption or pregnant women. Blends activated with fire are intended for sacred smoking on special occasions, rather than daily use.
